Skin And Therapy

Skin is LIFE, the blog

WHY DOES MY SKIN FEEL SO DULL  & DRY WHEN IT’S COLD OUTSIDE?

Every winter without fail I’m bombarded with questions from my client’s about why their skin seems to freakout as soon as it gets a little chilly outside. I get asked everything from should I change my products, to is it something I’m eating. While both questions absolutely affect the appearance of the skin, the simplest answer is lack of moisture. And this is across the board, effecting all skin types.

It should be no surprise that harsh winter weather followed by indoor heat can wreck chaos on the face. During the year’s colder months weather restricts the flow of blood to the top layer of skin otherwise known as the epidermis. This makes the lack of moisture visibly noticeable, often coupled with itchy and even flaky skin making the face susceptible to infections and breakouts.

So What Should You Do?

The first line of defense is to switch to a heavier moisturizer at home. We recommend Repêchage® Vita Cura®  Triple Firming Cream twice a day. This creamy moisturizer is enhanced with skin-softening shea, mango and cocoa butters which not only nourish the skin but act as a protective barrier against environmental changes. It’s the ability to firm, lift and invigorate otherwise dull skin resulting in the appearance of a nutrient rich and hydrated softer appearance.

Apart from enhancing the moisture content of the skin on a daily basis, the second most effective line of defense is scheduling a great professional anti-aging facial rich with moisturizing antioxidants. Our Hollywood Ageless Facial combined with a lite vegan alpha hydroxy acid peel works to naturally digest the surface protein of the skin. Designed to help rejuvenate and tone the appearance of dry flaky skin revealing a more youthful and long lasting glow.

EVEN MORE SKIN SECRETS TO REMEMBER WHEN IT’S COLD OUTSIDE.
  1. Don’t skip the SPF. Even though you may not see the sun everyday, UVA and UVB rays are still present and very harmful. ALWAYS apply sunscreen under your daily moisturizer.
  2. Avoid hot showers as they tend to over dry the skin and also remove the natural oil that keeps skin healthy and glowing.
  3. Use a Humidifier, it’s great for making sure the air indoors doesn’t get too dry, which is a major factor for excessively dry, itchy winter-skin.
  4. Always apply body moisturizer immediately after getting out of the shower or bath. Used effectively it will lock in hydration while the skin is still slightly moist.
